Think Pink!

Spring is in the air and the color I've been seeing everywhere is pink! Women are really embracing all shades of pink this season. I've seen hot pink ballet flats, frilly skirts with soft pink hues, baby pink flowery tops, and amazing deep violet bags.

My big 3-0 is just around the corner, so my fabulous hubby bought me a gorgeous fuschia woven hobo for my birthday. It's from Bottega Veneta's spring line and it's called the Veneta Intrecciato in Orchid. I am absolutely in looooove with it. It's the perfect pink accessory that makes any outfit pop.

Pink is just such a happy color. If you don't like pink clothing, try pink lips, or a cute pink skinny belt, or even a pretty pink pedi which can brighten up a pair of peep toe heels. Pink is also a color that looks good on everyone because there are so many shades to choose from. So, try on something pink today. It'll make you feel good, I promise.

Below is a picture of my pretty pink friend...do you like?

I Can't Believe I Watch TMZ

It's sad but true. I have recently been sucked into watching TMZ while I work out. My gym has TV's connected to every machine and recently switched from regular cable to digital (or something like that) and I can no longer watch Rachael Ray because we don't get the Food Network anymore (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!).

Anyway, we do get the FOX network and so now I watch TMZ from 6:30pm to 7pm while I'm on the elliptical or stepper. For those of you who don't know what TMZ is, it's a trashy show where sleezy paparazzi-esque "reporters" give brief rundowns of their encounters with celebrities in the street. Basically, it's fabulous! They all stand around and talk sh*t about people like Paris Hilton and how she was dancing on tables in Vegas, or how Danny Devito was spotted at a rave at Cochella partying like a rockstar! Classic!

Sometimes it makes me laugh out loud! Like last week they reported on Doug Reinhardt and how his fame stems from his step father's invention of the frozen burrito, or chimichanga, whatever....I almost died. What they're really saying, is that Doug Reinhardt is famous for nothing, much like all of the cast of MTV's The Hill's, or the Kardashian sisters. I will admit that I also enjoy all of the shows I just mentioned, but I agree that these people are famous for no reason...

So although TMZ is a bit trashy, and is probably making me dumber by the minute, it makes me laugh out loud therefore I will continue to watch it and revel in the hilarity of what we call "celebrity" in this day and age.

By the way, who the hell is Justin Beiber, and why is he famous???

Acupuncture?

It's official. I have made my first acupuncture appointment for next Saturday and I am really excited. One (not so cool) thing about me that you don't know is that I suffer from joint pain. My knees ache, my shoulders are sore, and my right wrist sometimes hurts so bad that I can't hold a pen. It really sucks, and NO, I will NEVER stop wearing heels...

I've done my homework, and know all about the different types of chronic joint pain. I know about rheumatoid arthritis versus osteoarthritis, and bursitis versus tendonitis, and I've gone to the doctor who said it was probably a mild form of tendonitis due to the ergonomics of my desk at work. See! Work really is killing me...anyway, all I know for sure is that my body is telling me that something is wrong and I have to listen. Personally, I think that my joint pain is a result of a combination of the way I sit at my desk, type at my computer all day, and carry a heavy bag over my shoulder. I also think that it gets worse when I'm really stressed out. And I'm sure it doesn't help that some days I wear 4 inch heels and others I wear really flat flats.

So, why acupuncture you ask? Well I'm Chinese and acupuncture is one of the oldest Chinese treatments that helps relieve all types of ailments from digestive problems, to infertility. I also like the fact that it is a holistic approach to healing as opposed to traditional Western medical practice that heavily relies on medication. I like that acupuncture recognizes that the body is a sum of its parts--meaning that you have to take into consideration that all things are connected within your body, including the mind and your emotions.

So, next Saturday I will have tons of tiny needles stuck all over my body. Hopefully it will help alleviate my joint pain and at the same time relieve some of my stress. I look forward to being more in tune with my body. If any of you have had good experiences with acupuncture I'd love to hear about it...and I'll keep you posted on my treatments. Here's to a pain free future!

I Endorse: The Hood Comp

A few weekends ago, Mike and I were out enjoying the warm spring weather and strolling down 14th street which is the main drag through our neighborhood, Logan Circle. After spending some of our hard earned cash at Redeem a local boutique that we love, we decided to grab a bite at Bar Pilar, a hip local eatery.

We sat at one of the two tables outside and proceeded to enjoy delicious mussels in a garlic and parsley broth with crusty garlic bread, and then split a chicken salad sandwich which came with a lovely mesclun green salad. It was a perfect lunch on a glorious Saturday afternoon. Oh, I almost forgot that we also shared the flourless chocolate cake that comes with ice cream...yummy!

Our server, a lovely lady who also bartends at Policy, a lounge across from Bar Pilar on 14th street, was so friendly and we laughed together about the last time I hung out at Policy where she happened to be serving me, and I ended up with a monstrous hangover the next day...(not pretty).

Bar Pilar never disapoints. The food is good, the atmosphere is cool, and the staff is friendly. The cherry on top is "the hood comp" which makes you smile when you see it on your bill because it deducts $15 from your expense. Just for living in the hood! What a great idea! It's a way of saying thanks for spending money in the neighborhood, come again! It's brilliant! I think that all businesses should incorporate something like the hood comp. It's smart to treat locals well, because you know they'll return again and again. I always feel good when Mike and I have eaten at our local restaurants, or shopped at our local stores. It helps boost the community, which in turn helps us. We'll certainly be heading back to Bar Pilar soon and you should too!

Things That Gross Me Out: The Double Down

I'll keep this short and sweet. This new "sandwich" from KFC is the most grotesque food I've ever laid eyes on. It consists of two large pieces of fried chicken with multiple slices of cheese and bacon in between. It's funny that we wonder why our children are obese and we are constantly battling a fat epidemic in this country -- HELLO! Everything about this "sandwich" screams obesity, and clogged arteries.

Wake up people! Places like KFC, and McDonald's are not going to look out for your health and well-being. They will continue to market and sell these horribly unhealthy and fattening foods to the masses, no matter how many people are adversely effected -- it's their business!

So, the way I see it is that it's up to us to not eat or buy foods like the Double Down, and frankly put, it's a matter of life and death.

How Annoying Are: Huge Gusts of Wind

Okay ladies, you all know of what I speak. Picture it. You've just left your house. You step outside. Your hair is perfect, your lip gloss is shining, and your wearing your new favorite flowered dress. You begin to walk down the block, feeling fabulous, when all of a sudden out of nowhere this mighty gust of wind blows your way and BAM! All is not how it once was.

Your hair is flying every which way and its not cute, your once perfect pout is now covered in bits of sand and dirt, not to mention YOUR HAIR is also stuck to your lips, and you are squirming around like a fool trying to get your dress which has blown up several times, to cover your back side.

Why does this ALWAYS happen??? What really gets me is that I look around and no one else is suffering like I am. All the other women have short hair, or they are wearing matte lipstick, or PANTS!

Anyway, just thought I'd share this annoyance with you since this has been happening to me all week. Mother Nature, gimme a break, will ya?!
