Lovely

I recently fell in love with Valentino's Spring Collection 2011.  The clothes are feminine and playful, yet still sophisticated and elegant.  There are a lot of earthy tones like camel and celadon, and there's a lot of lace, which I love!

Not to mention that I am completely obsessed with the Rockstud line of bags.  They are amazing.  I tried on the smaller one in black and it made me swoon.  I have to admit though, that I was not and am still not a fan of the Rockstud t-strap that everyone was wearing at the fashion shows.  See below.
There's just too much going on here
But the Rockstud bag collection is a thing of beauty!  Here's the one I got my eye on:
I love the stud details and the clasp. Comes in black too!

Well, my 31st birthday is only 5 months away!  I'll keep my fingers crossed...

It's Thursday and I Need a Drink!

When the ball dropped and 2011 arrived, Mike and I made a resolution to detoxify our bodies for one month.  This detox entailed avoiding all dairy, alcohol, refined sugar, and caffeine.

Needless to say, we lasted about one week.  What we've done instead is try to stay away from alcohol and refined sugar (notice how we dropped the caffeine and dairy) throughout the week.  And, the weekends are fair game and we can eat and drink whatever we want.

My question is, does Thursday count as the weekend?  Please say yes.  Here's why: I don't ever feel like I need to have a drink on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or even Sunday, but when Thursday rolls around I need a big ole glass of wine.

Maybe it's because the week is almost over and I'm exhausted from work.  Maybe it's because the tolerance for my job and all the stress involved comes crashing down towards week's end.  Hell, maybe I'm just programmed this way.  Whatever it is, it's Thursday and I need wine. Period.

The only question now is, red or white?

Once an Asshole...

Remember the episode of *SATC when Miranda meets and agrees to go out with a guy that Carrie used to date even though Carrie warned her that he was a huge asshole back in the day?  Well, Miranda goes out on a few dates with the guy, and whatta ya know?  He turns out to still be a major asshole, just like Carrie said.

I recently lived through a similar situation.  A guy that Mike and I knew several years ago, who was a big asshole then, has now resurfaced in our lives.  The details are irrelevant, but as soon as I found out that we would be associating with him, I began to wonder if he was still an asshole or if he had matured and changed.

Well, I should have known better.  Turns out that he's still just as much of an asshole as he ever was.  No, as a matter of fact, he's worse now!  It just really makes me wonder...once an asshole, always an asshole?

*Also, I just wanted to point out again that EVERY episode of SATC pertains to my life in some way!

So, what do you think?

My Therapy: Sex and the City

I cannot believe that it has taken me this long to talk about my obsession with Sex and the City.  If there is one thing that you should know about me, it's that Sex and the City is my all time favorite show and I quote it, and think about situations in episodes that are similarly hapening in my life, at least once a day.

Whenever I'm feeling blue, or missing my girlfriends from NYC, or just when I need a good laugh, I know that I can turn to the ladies of SATC and all will be better.  Yesterday at the gym I watched two really old episodes while I was on the stair machine.  Not only was I cracking up the entire time, but I kept thinking how each topic of both episodes pertained to my life in some way.

It's like the writers of the show just really get women.  My favorite is Miranda.  The development of her character throughout the show was fascinating to watch, and she is just hilarious.  She's so human, so believeable.

Anyway, just wanted to share my adoration.  I can't wait to see which episodes are on while I'm at the gym tonight!  Are there any FWC followers that love SATC as much as I do?

Tragedy in Tucson

I usually try to keep it light here at FWC, but I decided that the shooting that occurred in Tucson this past Saturday was a topic that I simply had to address.

What is going on in this country?  It deeply saddens me to think that our differences in political views would cause this kind of extreme violence.  America needs to wake up and smell the coffee.  The further we divide the harder we will fall, and we will fall, make no mistake about that.  It's already happening.

Our education system is broken, our economy has flatlined, and Americans are at each other's throats.
This op-ed in the New York Times sums it up perfectly.  We are living in a climate of hate and I am disgusted and ashamed.

My thoughts today are with Gabrielle Giffords, the families who lost loved ones, and the community members of the city of Tucson.

I Hear Steel Drums...

Picture it.  A long sandy white beach, azure colored waters for as far as the eye can see, and me sitting, no actually laying, on a beach chair sipping a margarita, and reading a good book.

Yes kids, the Caribbean is calling my name, as it usually does this time of year. The only question is which island to visit? The Bahamas? Grand Cayman? Puerto Rico? Any and all sound great to me.

You're probably wondering how I could possibly need a vacation after coming off of the holiday break between Christmas and New Year's, but my only answer is that I do.

It's 33 degrees here in DC today and it's supposed to snow later this afternoon.  I'm also completely slammed at work with no easing up in sight.  It also doesn't help that I'm as pale as a ghost and haven't been on a beach in over a year.

The winter blues have set in and I must prevail!  So stay tuned for some vacation planning and in the meantime I'll be shopping for new a new bikini!

Diane Von Furstenburg

What can I say about DVF that hasn't already been said a thousand times?  Her designs are classic, they are timeless, and her prints are fantastic!  Her wrap dresses are iconic and every girl should have one in their closet.

I actually own two DVF dresses and I adore them both.  One is a sheath and it's a print consisting of amazing rich hues of red, fuschia, blue, and black.  It's super flowy and hits right at the knees and I absolutely love it.

The second, I just got for a wedding coming up later this month.  It's the DVF version of a little black dress and it's fabulous!  Here's a picture of it:
It's three quarter sleeved, with a boat neck in front and back, which is really flattering and it's lambskin leather and nicely form fitting.  I really love it and can't wait to wear it with my super high D&G platforms!

Thanks DVF!  Keep doing what you do best and I'll be a a loyal customer forever!

How Annoying Are: New Year's Gym Members

Yesterday was back to reality for me.  Back to work after some time off, back to our daily routine, back to cooking dinner, and back to the gym.

After a long day's work, the last thing I want to do is work out for an hour, but hey, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do, and bathing suit season is just around the corner, and no one wants to see me in a string bikini after Christmas - trust me.

So I walk into my gym yesterday, and whatta ya know?  It's packed!  Not an available elliptical, stair climber, or treadmill in sight.  Are you kidding, I thought?  Then it hit me - it's packed in here because of all the new members who have made new year's resolutions to lose weight, or to be healthier.

Well, what do I have to say to them - Get out!  We all know that they'll probably drop off in a month or so, and go back to their unhealthy ways.  Well that is a little harsh, I know, but really.  I do get annoyed when I've been a member who consistently goes to the gym for the past three years and I can't get onto a machine. UGH!

Anyway, that's all for my first rant of the year.  Cross your fingers that I can jump onto a stepper tonight, or there will be blood.

Happy New Year!

It's 2011!  I can't hardly believe that 2010 is over, but I am ready for this year to be the best one yet.  Much to report on, but for now I'm wishing everyone a happy, healthy 2011!

FWC will be back in full effect tomorrow!  Until then...
